CHARACTER INFO

Character Name: Princess Mikotsu
Character Canon: Wadanohara and the Great Blue Sea

History: Once upon a time, the Sea Kingdom, split between the Red and Blue Seas, was ruled over by the Sea God, and he had two daughters: Princess Uomi, who was very kind, and Princess Mikotsu, who was very loyal. They were a loving family till finally, the Sea God passed away, naming Uomi as his successor. Mikotsu was outraged, feeling there was no reason she shouldn't have been chosen, and became paranoid that something was wrong with her. To prove herself, she gathered her supporters and since then, the Red Sea was at war with the Blue Sea.

The two princesses were evenly matched, but it became clear that Mikotsu's forces were stronger through the power of the Red Sea. It was then when Meikai, the Great Sorcerer, stepped in to aid Uomi. At the cost of his own life possibly, Meikai sealed away Mikotsu and the Red Sea all in order to protect her baby daughter. Since then, Uomi has ruled over the Great Blue Sea, though much of her time is spent sleeping in order to keep Mikotsu at bay for the two still share a strong connection with each other.

Years have passed since and Mikotsu remains conscious through her time sealed. Her Red Sea has become a Sea of Death, responding to and being corrupted by her hatred. Just the same, all of her supporters changed, turning undead, rotting away and unable to die in the sealed sea. All she could think about was how she wasn't good enough, how much she would never forgive Uomi and Meikai, and still, she prayed to her father for help... though it became clear that ultimately, he betrayed her. She began to lose the power of speech and much of her memories through her own corruption. All she could remember is her hate.

Still, she had a plan to break free. She left behind her ambassador in Uomi's ranks to find a way to destroy the seal. Through him, the barrier protecting the Sea was weakened and she pit a neighboring kingdom against Uomi in a bid to wake her up and break the Seal. With the Sea of Death released intot he world, the corruption spread across the kingdom. Mikotsu made one last campaign against the Sea Kingdom, encountering Wadanohara, Meikai's daughter, along the way. Though she had no words to offer her, she plunged her mind into the depths of despair, showing her images of peace in death. Wadanohara managed to break free, but by then, Mikotsu was already inside the palace, also corrupted through her influence.

She made her way to Uomi and challenged her to another fight. They were evenly matched, but she vowed not to lose... though her will wavered when her sister presented her with a simple question: whether she knew why the Sea God didn't choose her. Mikotsu still lacked an answer and realized that win or lose, it wouldn't change the fact that she had been abandoned.

Mikotsu fled, returning to the Sea of Death, losing all her will to fight despite all of her preparations. Since then, she has been sealed yet again, still without an answer as to what made her inferior to Uomi in her father's eyes.

AU History: Princess Mikotsu and Princess Uomi were the two daughters of the Blue Sea Clan's patriarch that ruled a territory of land on the Archipelago. The clan reveres the seas as where life came from and are humbled through their relationship to it and the Water Pokemon that live within. Unlike other parts of the Archipelago, they've distanced themselves from technology and make it a point to remain as close to nature as possible.

Mikotsu and Uomi were close siblings and they shared a bond that allowed each other to understand each others' hearts. At the same time, Mikotsu prided herself as a perfectionist, working diligently on her studies and honing her abilities in preparation for becoming a strong leader for the Blue Sea Clan. She was driven by her loyalty to her family and many of her would-be supporters took notice of this.

The time came, however, when the clan's patriarch fell ill. On his deathbed, he named Uomi as the Clan's new leader. Their father never gave a reason and he passed on before Mikotsu could ever ask why she wasn't chosen. Being left with no answer troubled Mikotsu who wondered what made her inferior to her sister. She worked even harder and among the two, her abilities as an Enlightened were without argument stronger. So then, what was it?

At this point, the forces around Mikotsu took action. While Uomi ascended to the Blue Sea Clan's leadership, several of the old patriarch's advisers would rally behind Mikotsu and claim that she had a stronger reason to rule over the ill-prepared Uomi. They convinced Mikotsu that war was inevitable, that she could demonstrate her superiority and right to rule through battle.

And so, the Red Sea faction came to be and the War of Succession took place. Though Uomi had more supporters on her side, many of whom were moved by her loving, kind nature, Mikotsu's side had sheer force behind it. Mikotsu's own abilities as a God of War made her untouchable through the sorties. The two sisters clashed, the civil war took its toll on both humans and Pokemon alike, but it was then when a stranger intervened.

A man, or entity in human form, calling himself the “Great Sorcerer”, allied with Uomi at the last minute of the last hour. His powers single-handedly turned the tides of the war against Mikotsu and she and her followers were defeated. Those remaining either quietly abandoned their loyalties to Mikotsu or simply left the lands. Mikotsu, though offered to return home by Uomi, escaped, sending herself into exile from the Archipelago, alone.

Uomi's rule was consolidated and peace returned to the lands. Mikotsu found herself completely alone as she began traveling the lands and across the seas, searching for the answers to her questions... and power. Power that could outdo that of the “Great Sorcerer” and Uomi. In her loneliness, all she could think about was how much she hated her sister, how her father had betrayed her, and why she wasn't good enough.

Time stretched far and the journey through unknown territory took its toll on her. As Mikotsu survived through the wilds, she compensated the lack of company by developing personas to keep her company, most prominently an adviser character named Fish. In exchange, she forgot how to speak with her own voice.

Though beaten and worn out, her journey finally takes her to Union. It doesn't even occur to her that she died along the way. Her lasting grudge keeps her in the world.

Canon Personality: If Uomi was the most loving princess, then given what happened after the passing of the Sea God, it's safe to say that Mikotsu is the most loyal. She loved her father dearly and before his passing, she loved her sister as well. They still share a strong, emotional bond with one another and in spite of the rift created between the two, this is what allowed Uomi to keep Mikotsu at bay. All Mikotsu wants is to prove herself as worthy to others, sometimes depending too much on how others perceive her. She turned toward darkness after it seemed as though her father had rejected her, but even then, rather than becoming a dictator, she worked within the interests of her people and supporters. While her personal emotions may get in the way, Mikotsu's greatest wish is to be of use to those around her.

But since the incident, she has been burdened with strong thoughts of being unfit or flawed. When sealed and isolated, she was haunted by constant thoughts of what about her wasn't right, and she promised she would never forgive her sister or the denizens of the Blue Sea. Mikotsu developed a sense of sadism from the experience. She wears a near-constant smile, finding delight in the misery of others, though mainly toward those she feels deserves retribution. Her sense of justice is both absolute and unrelenting. If there was anything that the Sea King may have seen in Mikotsu's unpreparedness to rule, it might have been her unwillingness to forgive slights and offenses. She's still a child in that regard.

Just the same, Mikotsu has a soft spot for those that were “cast away”. She's not beyond empathy and feels especially close toward those who were rejected by the world. Though some of her followers reveled in chaos, and she granted them independence to pursue it, much of her supporters were simply people who couldn't fit in with the mold of the Sea Kingdom. These are people that Mikotsu strives most to help out, supporting their intentions and granting them the power to get what they want in exchange for their fealty. This also betrays a kind of selfishness, though, as she's selective with the people she likes, compared to Uomi who is capable of accepting everyone.

Hate consumed Mikotsu and literally ate away at her body till she was little more than a living corpse. She lost the power of speech, or at least, it significantly deteriorated. Much of her memories vanished as well, focusing on the dreaded moments when she fought with Uomi and was sealed away. Mikotsu prefers to leave the talking to her doting attendant, Fish, who understands her well enough to politely translate her thoughts to people. Like a husk of her former self, she seeks out vengeance, but what she wants ultimately is to feel loved and be approved of. She stops the war when realizing that fighting won't get her that in a rare demonstration of maturity. This desire lingers on and manifests through hatred even when her mind has deteriorated the way it did, making her a single-minded determinator.

When not acting on her intense feelings, Mikotsu can be like any other child, energetic and curious. There's much of the world she hasn't seen and as a sheltered princess, doubly so given her time locked away, a lot is bound to fascinate her. She's friendly toward people, even amiable, but would likely still present to them characteristics of a little girl raised in nobility: naive in large part with poor understanding of how people outside the palaces live.

AU Deviation: Rather than being sealed away, Mikotsu willingly left her home even as she was forgiven and invited back by her sister. As such, her memories and experiences are still fresh and her body and mind likely aren't rotting as they are in canon. As such, her goal here is more towards finding answers to questions that continue to haunt her rather than wage another war. She's far more amiable toward regular people than she was in the original game. Something else she's dealing with is regret toward having failed her supporters even if she was used by them.

Canon Abilities: Mikotsu is a daughter of the Sea God and as such, ranks somewhere around demi-god status. She can breathe underwater and move above water just the same. As a necromancer, she commands the undead through her influence over the Red Sea, now the Sea of Death. Her corrupting influence affects the air around her, giving it a tinge of red. Dead creatures are reborn as they are, armored in a black tar-like substance. Her power primarily affects the shape of the sea, even affecting the architecture of the Sea Kingdom, turning it into a nightmarish shape.

Her influence has a mental effect to it as well. She's able to induce total despair within people and corrupt them from within. As a demigod, she's not easily hurt in spite of her small frame and in canon, her only equals are Uomi and Meikai.

Enlightened Abilities: Mikotsu will be a God of War Enlightened with Water, Ghost, and Dark typings.

In her first form, Mikotsu uses waves of shadow that target the minds of others, provoking Confusion or Sleep. She can conjure a burst of red water that functions similarly to Water Pulse or Nightmare, should the target be asleep. She moves quickly, but generally lacks the ability to keep up with close-range fighting.

In her first Evolution, she develops skeletal features around her body, becoming more like a ghost. She can summon ghostly hands and eyes from the ground to bind or paralyze enemies. Her water attacks become stronger, able to conjure red water up to a level similar to Muddy Water to hit larger areas.

In her final Evolution, Mikotsu develops an aura around her that functions similarly to Cursed Body, draining the energies of those that attack her. She develops one psychic move functioning like Magic Room in addition to a boost in her regular abilities. It manifests in a cosmetic change to the environment as if her red aura had engulfed it.

Notes/Special Considerations: Mikotsu's primary goal is to seek power, but rather than being a villainous presence, I plan to keep her operating as a neutral party in Union generally. The Blue Sea Clan in all likelihood probably worships a certain sea deity, though I'm not entirely sure whether anyone would know of, say, Kyogre by name.

Also, Fish, who usually follows Mikotsu as his attendant, will be a 'voice' that she crafted to keep her company through her isolated journey. She'll speak in his voice usually and it's the only way she can speak comfortably, but will drop it when she's feeling pressured.

SAMPLES

First-Person: -What would you say the role of Pokémon is in your life?
Hohoh... Why, Pokemon are allies and friends just as people can be. The Princess knows this better than anyone else. We couldn't have made it to Union without the help of her dear friend, Mantyke...
-What do you feel your role in your city is?

Are you inquiring about our presence here in Union? If so, you needn't fear! The Princess says she is but a humble guest, nothing more. … Yes, that's right, Princess. Our stay here is purely educational, to plan out means of bridging our two cultures, here in Union and there in our Red Sea Clan.

-To what lengths would you go to rescue your allies if they were lost in the wilderness?

Oh my, wouldn't that be tragedy... … Ah, yes! How kind of you, Princess. She says she would never abandon any of her friends. Rescuing them would be of the highest priority if they were lost! Then the Princess will make sure they understand safety out in the wilderness before they're set off again. Inspiring!

-What would you say the most important occupation is within your city?
Let's see, there's quite a lot, aren't there? Goodness me, we've only been here for a few days... She says, 'I admire how hard the Swords of the Savior work to keep the city safe'. Yes, for without protection, people in a city wouldn't get to enjoy their work and lives! Very astute, Princess.

Third-Person:

-What does the story of the Savior mean to you?
Man's foolishness truly knows no bounds. The Princess feels that it's only fortunate such a savior should have arrived like that. She wonders whether or not there will be another, one day... It's a story her father told her and one that she keeps to heart.

-What aspects and traits do you respect most in your individual fellow man?
... All the Princess asks for from those around her is loyalty. Yes, if you can be trusted to be kind, then why shouldn't you be treated kindly in turn? I rather think that this is the secret to peace some people already found quite well.

-The gods of old have returned. How would you be judged if you were chosen as a representative of humanity?
Ohoh! Did you hear that, Princess? If the great Princess Mikotsu was chosen to represent, then the gods would see full well humanity's potential. There's nobody that works harder for her people's sake than her. But then, we don't believe... that all of humanity deserves saving either.

-A human has attacked a wild Pokémon who retaliates in defense. How do you respond and whom do you defend?
Hm? Oh, yes. The Princess says that in a case like this, it could only be a human that is at fault. Why, that one should have known better... We'll work to calm the Pokemon, but as for the human... We can't see he should simply go without some punishment.

-What area do you seek to explore? The peaceful forest, in search of new, previously overlooked discoveries; the uncharted caves, in search of the unknown; or the wildest of mountain terrain, in search of danger, adventure, and thrills?
Ah, I must inquire, does the Princess only have one choice? She finds all of these places appealing in their unique ways... but I suppose a little adventure would be a lovely way to kill time. Hohoh.

-In your eyes, what is absolutely unforgivable?
... that's a difficult question to answer. But, if... if I can translate, I... I... … iT's aLl hEr faUlT... AlL uOmI's... I hA... tE... wIlL NeVEr fOrGIve... fOr bETraYInG... mE... hATe... iF I cOUlD, i... I wIsH...
